Description

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources was formed in September 2016 when the Department of Land Resource Management was combined with the environment function from the Department of Lands, Planning and the Environment.
The role of the department is to provide critical natural resource assessment, monitoring and land management advice to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources across the Northern Territory. The department delivers service and programs to mitigate threats posed by wildfire, pests and weeds.
Administrative arrangement changes of September 2020 combined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources with the Parks and Wildlife Commission to form the new Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security.
